There are probably hundreds of tablature versions of the James Bond theme on the internet. So why bother putting up a new one? There are two reasons:

Because many, if not most, of the tabs aren’t even close to sounding like the Bond theme, or only feature little bits, or get wrong the EmM79 (thanks to Spy-Fi for the correct name! see comments below) chord at the end. This one at least sounds mostly right.

And because, though it’s overplayed, overexposed, and perhaps overhyped, it was the original. Through all the imitators, the James Bond Theme remains one of the best, most memorable pieces of film music ever.

  1. spy-fi says:

The final chord, as I understand it, is an EmM79 (e minor major 7 9). The notes are as follows and form a 5 string chord. It starts on the open low E string, with the G at the 10th fret of the A string: E-G-B-D#-F# no open E. This is what the original guitarist, Vic Flick, has stated to me. I have since dubbed the inversion “The Vic Flick Chord”. I hope this brings some clarification.

Thanks, Spy-Fi (Tom, maybe?)! I’ve corrected the posting and the tablature to reflect this straight-from-the-source bit of info. And I was so close — only that high open E off from having it correct! Speaking of Vic Flick, I’ve recently purchased your latest CD and am waiting for it to arrive. I’m hoping to write about surf-spy bands as the Thursday theme for February, and hope to cover Spy-Fi in the first week.
