Gang,
Sorry for my recent absence. As a good secret agent, I’ve got to keep my cover identity going. Over the past few weeks, that’s meant two things — starting another semester in the PhD program, and updating the site of one of my web clients, who had a movie debut on Friday that was based on a graphic novel he’d written .
Completely unrelated to that, I’m sure, is last Friday’s release of Whiteout, based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka. While the heroine of the piece is a federal marshall, the comic/film fit within the scope of this site because Carrie Stetko is a federal marshall working in Antarctica which makes her, yes, an international crimefighter. Even better, in the book, Stetko is joined on her investigation by MI-6 agent Lily Sharpe, widely believed to be Tara Chace (of Queen & Country fame) in disguise. I encourage you to seek out the graphic novel Whiteout as it’s quality stuff, and the movie’s not too bad, though it pales in comparison to the source text (don’t they usually?).
Now, let’s get down to….
We’re now entering month three of our Harry Palmer Files, which at the beginning was supposed to end at the close of July. So far we’ve only covered one book in the series, and I hope we haven’t micro-analyzed to the point of driving our readers away! We’ll be moving on from The IPCRESS File after today.
Next up on the list is Horse Under Water, and we’ll be announcing a contest soon. So if you haven’t started reading, you’d better get started!
Today, though, I want to share some cover songs I’ve turned up of The IPCRESS File theme. Originally by John Barry, this one was covered both at the time of the movie release, and more recently by contemporary artists. Here are a few versions for you:
